An Old Tradition Meets the Latest Technologies

11/13/07

This New Year's Eve, the sky over Times Square will shine brighter than it ever did before. Why? Celebrating its 100th birthday, the New Year's Eve Ball received a complete makeover. In 1907 it was built out of wood and iron and adorned with 100 25-watt light bulbs. In 2007, the latest technologies were used to increase the ball's brightness, energy efficiency and color capabilities. 672 Waterford Crystal Triangles combined with 9,576 Philips Luxeon LEDs produce more than 16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns using only the amount of electricity it takes to power ten toasters.

However, what looks great on the outside also needs great support from the inside.....

New Year's Eve Ball

Lapp USA, a member of Lapp Group, is very happy to be supplying the cable to help light up the New Year's Eve sky. A special design of our OLFLEX® FD 855P cable was produced to accommodate the electrical requirements and withstand colder temperatures and high winds. In keeping with the "green" philosophy, the cable provided also is halogen free and conforms to the new RoHS standard. The OLFLEX® FD 855P cable will be lowered with the ball to power the Philips Luxeon LEDs.
